What we check
Shark teeth and face alignment
We check the shark hood's teeth and face for symmetry and alignment. Teeth that sit unevenly or do not line up across the zip are the single most reliable tell.
ABC camo print
We look at the ABC camo for print sharpness and correct colour. Replicas come out dull or blurred, and the ape heads inside the pattern end up the wrong shape.
YKK zippers
Real BAPE uses YKK zippers. We check the branding on the pull and the feel of the track, since an unbranded or off-brand zip settles it on its own.
Ape-head embroidery
We assess the ape-head embroidery for dense, clean stitching. Sparse, loose or fraying embroidery means a replica.
Tags and labels
We compare the tags, the fonts and the wash labels against genuine references for that specific piece and release.
